i want to know how to do the Waldner reverse topspin pendulum serve.

Hi Siddhartha,
Waldner was an incredible server but I don't think he used the reverse pendulum serve very often. This serve became popular when he was in the later stages of his career.

Never seen J.O uses reverse pendulum serves before, but J.O has lots of serve with different styles and variations..and he is the best table tennis player of all time...

After his serve he sometimes flicked his wrist to the right, like in a reverse pendulum serve, but he never actually used the reverse pendulum.

Well, his trademark down the line serve is technically a reverse pendulum? Very similar to Zhang Jike's, starting with a normal pendulum and then going the other direction

I don't think so. It's true that the service motion was ZJK-like, but on most of his trademark down-the-line serves he didn't put reverse sidespin (most were nospin/very light spin).

The pendulum is reverse, not the sidespin. Don't let the lefties hear you say right-hand centric stuff like that ;)

Sorry, but I don't get it.
When Timo Boll does a serve where the ball curves to a right handed receiver's backhand (same sidespin as a regular pendulum for a right hander), we still call it "Timo Boll's reverse pendulum serve". Why would a left-hander call a right hander's pendulum "reverse"? It doesn't make sense.

No, I'm saying it doesn't matter if Waldner puts much side spin on his serve or not, it's still reverse, cuz the motion is reverse

If I do a pendulum serve and after the contact I flick my wrist the other way, it is not a reverse pendulum serve in my opinion, it's a pendulum serve. The contact point matters.
What do other people think about this?

Yes, but if you flick before contacting, it is, something Waldner did occasionally, I'd say. In essence it's no different from for example Zhang Jike's serve (who does the exact same motion for normal and reverse pendulum)

Sorry, but I disagree again...
Watch "[Close-up view] Zhang Jike Pendulum Serve", by Linxu Wu (on Youtube),at 0:28 and 0:31. That is Zhang Jike's motion for a pendulum serve, not the one where he flicks his bat towards his forehand corner. Or, since Fan Zhendong's serve is a copy of Zhang Jike's, watch "Fan Zhendong: Rise of a Champion", by TT Tributes, and look at his service motion in the first point (against Samsonov).

Marius,to make thing clear:
Pendulum serve is when you contact the ball while swinging TOWARDS YOUR BODY.
Reversed pendulum serve is when you do it while swinging AWAY FROM YOUR BODY.
In other words,during Pendulum serve you BEND your wrist,whereas during Reverse pendulum you EXTEND your wrist.

Note that when the CONTACT POINT is made is the important thing.
