What do you think of my tactics?

Strategy

I coach. I would ask a question if my tactics are good enough. I do the Lob state, i always do this thing when I'm receive it wrongly then i turn myself into Defence Mode so...the opponent starts to have a powerful attacks and wait for the opponent to lose his breath then i try counter some of his attacks.

If not i turn myself into Close Defence Mode more on like Power Block State i try to block some of my opponents powerful attacks and put the ball on his weak spot of the table.

Are my tactics good enough to defeat an opponent?

Hi Reynel,

I wouldn't recommend these tactics. Lobbing until your opponent gets tired might work against some players if you are much better than them but if you play someone of similar standard or who is better than you, you will struggle.

If you enjoy this style of playing you might be better off becoming a defender who chops the ball back. This style is much harder for opponents to play against.

As for the blocking, this can be effective up to a certain level. Your tactics of trying to play to your opponent's weak spot are certainly effective. A more common style used by better players is to be an attacker. I would recommend this over being a straight out blocker.

Tactics Against Penhold Players

When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.

Thanks Jeff

IF i try to become an aggressive player im scared to lose points, im scared if the ball woudnt get inside the opponents table so i try to become a blocker instead

Hi Reynel,

Try to think about just playing a better game rather than the result.  This will free you up to play a more natural game and be more creative.

As Jeff said the blocking game is limited if you are trying to reach the higher level.
