Training
Hello there. I have participated in table tennis inter school competition, and will be going to a different school on 19th august. some 5-6 schools are participating, with 4 to 5 players from each school. Now I only have 3 days - 16th, 17th and 18th of august. I want to know if i should practice the strokes or services in which I am already experienced or just learn some new strokes or serves.
Like i know how to do the pendulum serve, backspin serve, sidespin serve, Tomahawk Sidespin & Backspin. Now should I learn the serves which I don't know - like the sidespin + topspin, or the ghost serve, OR should I keep practicing the serves which I already know how to do?
Also I want to know the same for strokes in rallies....should i practice the ones I already know, or learn some new strokes?
Please reply as soon as possible because I don't have much time left.
I have another question too. What am i supposed to do in the 1 minute time breaks....just drink water and return back? or something else?
Hi Rahul,
Definitely practice the strokes and serves that you are used to. 3 days is not enough time to develop anything new. This is a mistake a lot of players make. Work on what you know over the next few days and just try to get them a little better.
In the 1 minute break you should have a drink of water and try to think about the game. Analyse for yourself what type of serves worked well for you against that opponent and where on the table you should try to hit a lot of balls... to the backhand or forehand side or in the middle.
Enjoy your matches.
The forehand and backhand topspin strokes are two of the most important strokes in table tennis. In lesson 6 you start playing these strokes first by getting someone to throw the ball to you. This makes it easier to get into the correct position and concentrate on the correct start and finish position, and the essential brushing contact. You can then progress to using this in a rally where your training partner learns to block the topspin back.
