I just learned a new serve called the "ghost serve" which has a lot of backspin. I was facing my friend today and when i served it had so much back spin that it came back on my side. Who gets the point? Is this illegal or legal?
Thanks,
Kevin
Hi Kevin,
This is totally legal and you get the point. You need to be very skilled to be able to do this. Well done. Your opponent has to hit the ball before it comes back and touches your side.
You will ifnd though that top players won't use this because it is too slow and your opponent will eventually be able to come around and hit the ball away for a winner. But while it lasts enjoy the experience.
Most drills involve one person performing the exercise and the other placing the ball as required by the exercise. We call this person placing the ball the controller. When you are acting as the controller it is a great opportunity to practice your blocking and concentration. As blocking is an important part of the game you should be 100% focused at this time. You also owe it to your training partner to be blocking effectively so they get the most from their exercise.
