Hi,

I am currently a sophmore in high school and ping pong has been a passion for me. I have been playing ping pong for 2-3 years now. Like another reader posted, I have been playing with a premade bat with the highest stats from sports authority, it costed around $40 USD. When should I consider getting a custom bat and how much should a beginning custom bat cost? Or, am I getting too far ahead of myself and just play with the one that I have from sports authority?

Thanks for all of your help and keep up the great work!!!

Hi Bobby,

It is probably time to step up to a better racket.

You should spend somewhere in the range of $80 to $120 on this.  Any more and you are probably getting ahead of things.

Look at the ratings of spin and speed on both the rubber and balde.  Go for something mid-range to slower otherwise it will be too big  achange for you.

Always a difficult choice but go with a major brand like Stiga or Butterfly or Joola and you won't go too far wrong.

A blade is the most expensive and they last very long so I suggest you get one used.  There is a forum (mytabletennis.net) with 19500 members)  just open a thread titled something like LF: petr korbel blade and someone will answer.  You can save lots, I got a 60$ blade, practicaly new for 25$ with 2 usable bryce rubbers

Hi Alois,

Thanks for your response. I am not sure even where to begin, there are hundreds of blades with hundreds of rubbers. Can you lead me in the right direction?

 Thanks

We can access a William Henzell Bat with Mark V rubber for AUD$120 plus postage & handling. Depending on where you are you, could look at the Stiga All Round Classic Blade which we can get you for AUD$45 with Mark V rubber or Joola Tango rubber (each AUD$40). That isn't much if you are using US dollars. Get them in the 2.0mm thickness. Hope this helps.
