Hi,

Is there any rule as when to use backhand or forehand?

Hi Krishna,

There are no official rules where you have to use Forehand or Backhand.

What we recommend though is that you use the Forehand when the ball comes to the Forehand half of the table or perhaps a little on the Backhand half as well and then use your Backhand for the rest of the table.

This is especially when you are learning basic skills.

Good to know.  Thank you. There is a player in our club who uses the pen grip hold. He uses forehand and backhand at every angle on the table which works for him. However, it is so confusing to watch him play.

It does look odd when you first see it used.
