When to use banana flick

Strokes

Hi PingSkills!

About the backhand sidespin flick (banana flick) that you see those higher level players such as on the pros on TV do, when they play that banana flick is it usually against a topspin/no spin ball?

Or can they banana flick a heavy backspin ball? It seems that a short heavy backspin ball only a push can overcome.

Also 2nd part of the question: is the regular backhand flick (not banana) ever used? Any situation Why would use regular backhand flick over the banana?

thanks

Hi Aaron,

They can use it against a backspin or sidespin ball.  In fact it is easier against a backspin ball than a topspin ball.

You can use a regular flick against a no spin or topspin short serve.

Forehand Topspin Variations

A great weapon is being able to vary the amount of speed and spin on your forehand topspin stroke. By making your stroke more vertical and brushing the ball finely, you can generate more spin. For more speed you need to swing more horizontally.

In my opinion, regular backhand flick is perhaps for getting the basics of flick right, and at the same time, used as a variation..?
