Why backhand topspin is very hard to learn

Strokes

I noticed that many players and even professionals prefer footwork to do forehand topspin rather than the backhand topspin. For example Xu Xin, Tiago Apolonia.

Recently I learnt the forehand topspin, despite I play TT about 5 years.  But I can't do the  backhand topspin. Now, my opponents push only to my backhand side. I lose them during the push battle. It is very hard to use forehand topspin when they push to my backhand side. During footwork I lose balance and my forehand topspin fails. What do you suggest?

Hi Ardak,

The backhand topspin doesn't need to be more difficult.

I think a lot of players put more emphasis on the forehand and so the backhand does become more difficult for them.  Think about standing facing the table when you play.  Thi sail open up the possibility of being able to play with both forehand and backhand.

Then watch the tutorial on the Backhand Topspin and focus on getting the start and finish positions right.  If you can do this, you will start to be able to play the stroke well.

Then look at the Backhand Topspin Off Backspin tutorial which will be more relevant to the issue you are having when they push the ball to your backhand.
