HI Alois and Jeff
lately I've been watching a lot of top player play. One aspect that made me rather curious and excited was the way they gasp or make certain noises when they train their loop off block and backhand loop. it was rather funny and made me think if this could be used by amateur players such as myself.
Hi Dib,
It is just something that a few players do as a habit. Some feel they get better timing by doing this others feel they get more power.
You can try it... make sure you don't annoy too many of your friends though...
When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.

It's like expressing pain while doing loop or might be someone really reason

I think this is to keep their morale at high level and provide them with extra energy to keep focus on their play in a match.

Warren, your comment makes sense as according to my friend who is a weighlifter, you can use more power when you exhale during the stroke than if you inhale during the stroke.
