Hi Team Pingskills,

WTT has been established for almost 4 years now and I always wonder, why they don't change the side angle to a better one like the old back view or at least the 45 degree angle? I mean, they have done it for other tables apart from table 1. Table 1 is usually the live broadcast and the best players are usually allocated to play there. They may show certain points or replays at that angle from time to time but the default view is still the side. Why? So many people has complained why wouldn't they change it? It is really that hard to make slight adjustment?

Hi Eugene,

Great question! The choice of camera angles in table tennis broadcasts, especially for prominent matches, is indeed an important aspect that affects how viewers experience the game.

Personally I like the end angle as I feel it is easier to watch the match as a whole and see what both players are doing.  However some arguments from those that like the side angle are:

Firstly, consistency in broadcast production is highly valued. The side angle provides a standardized view that is familiar to most viewers and aligns well with other televised sports. This helps in maintaining a uniform look and feel across matches and tournaments, which can be important for branding and viewer expectations.

Secondly, the side angle offers a balance between showcasing player movements and the trajectory of the ball. It gives viewers a good sense of the speed and spin applied during rallies, which are crucial elements of high-level table tennis. That said, it's also about the technical limitations and logistics involved in setting up camera positions in various venues.

It might not happen overnight, but ongoing feedback can lead to adjustments in future tournaments. Keep sharing your thoughts, and let's hope for more viewer-friendly angles in upcoming broadcasts.
