Normally when winning the toss, I heard the player normally would choose to receive first but why?
Hi Jasper,
I don't think most players choose to receive. Sometimes they may because that means that they are serving at the end of the first and deceasing games.

Or,there are also players who have much better receiving skills than serving skills.

When winning the toss what am I supposed to choose? The serve and the side of play? My coach didn't say it so clear so I want to clarify. (this tournament will be played like ITTF standard so I think it should be the same)

Jasper, you chose whatever suits you best. Some think that serving is an adavantage, some that receiving first gives them a chance to get warmed up and in the zone. It can help if you know your oppenent. If I know I have a serve that troubles them I always opt for serving to try and get a good start. Sometimes it is a matter of how I feel on the day. If your oppenent has a strong serve, then you might like to receive, as it gives you more chance to face it early before the match is over. If you manage to dominate the rallies where they have used their best serves you stand a good chance of winning! You also risk losing all the points and the match will be over before you have learnt to counter their serves. Either way you must believe in your decision.
