Working on Reaction Alone

Dear Alois,

I have absolutely nobody in my family interested in table tennis and I don't have advanced equipment such as 100 table tennis balls. With this in mind, how could I work on my reaction when rallying against my opponent alone?

Thank you

Hi Patrick,

You can get them to hit the ball anywhere on the table while you hit back to one spot so that they can hit the ball faster and test out your reactions.

Lobbing Tactics

If you get pushed back from the table don't just give up the point. Try and and get back into the rally. By lobbing the ball high and deep you give yourself time to get into position. If you can then get some topspin on the ball to force the smasher further away from the table then you are likely to get a weaker smash and then you can take your chance and try to counter attack!
