Strategy
Hey Pingskills,
Although Zhang loves to pen the rally with his special signature BH over the table shot, I notice sometimes he just pushes the ball normally.
Does he choose to do this because its part of his plan and tactics (I notice he tends to do this agains Xu Xin especially). Or do you think the ball is simply too short, low and heavy with backspin to return it?
Thanks you in advance,
Arlen
Hi Arlen,
He will be using it strategically against different opponents. He may not think that it is effective against Xu Xin. I think he can almost use the stroke off any type of spin. It may also be that it isn't in the right position to make the stroke. I notice that is the ball is a little wider on the forehand side he doesn't use it as much.
A chopper likes to get back from the table and get into a nice rhythm. If you keep the defender close to the table in the early part of the rally, it's hard for them to transition back into their chopping position. So keep the ball short on your serve and try and catch them unprepared. Watch the video to find out more great tactics to use against a defensive chopper.
