Equipment
Hi Coach,
I've been wanting to ask about selecting an allwood blade vs selecting a carbon blade that I'll be sticking with for the rest of my career. I think it's safe to say that my level is around higher intermediate to low advanced, and I've already have a good sense of idea on the correct strokes for most of my shots. What I only lack is a bit of accuracy and precision for my muscles. Also, I play mostly loops and powerloops but I seldom defend or do flat smashes.
Given my level and style of play, I would like to ask if it is already ok for me to switch to a carbon blade like the timo boll alc? Or will it be too early for me and it would be better for me to choose an allwood blade that is not as fast as the timo boll alc but still fast enough for an allwood blade (Stiga infinity VPS)?
I also want to confirm if in case I choose timo boll ALC, will I still be able to improve overall as a player? Given that I already developed a sense of feel and the correct strokes. But it's just a matter of refining and making my strokes more precise and accurate and more importantly, developing new tactics along the way?
Hi Scotch,
It sounds like you may be ready for the faster blade if you think that would feel alright for you. IF you can use someone else's bat to trial it that would be the best solution. Otherwise you may be wasting money.

Thanks coach. Just a follow up question. If I were to stay with an allwood 5ply blade, will it be possible for me to reach a really high level (near national level) with just that? Or will I be needing the help of a carbon blade especially if I am an offensive looper?

Yes you will be able to play at a high level with an All Wood blade.
