Training
I have one 1.5 hour training session with a 1 on 1 coach, along with playing casually with some friends who are similar to my level or slightly above ONCE a week, so i play 2x a week on average.
On top of that, I was thinking whether I should get a robot (something like the Newgy robo-pong 2040/2050), but i'm sitting on the fence whether i should get one?
Do they help with getting better? For example, better technique? more consistent shots? training footwork?
Is it beneficial to get one? Would I actually become better if I used one on a regular basis versus if I never touched one before?
Also, Are the robots only good until a certain level (for ex: until amateur/intermediate level), then it becomes obsolete if i want to get better?
Hi Aaron,
I wrote a blog on this topic a while ago that will answer a lot of your questions. Take a look at the Blog on Table Tennis Robots.
Let me know if you have any other questions after reading the blog.
Although attacking is the most popular style at the top level in Table Tennis, it is important to be able to defend well. If you choose to play a defensive style then you should be practicing these strokes all the time. If you play an attacking stroke then you should still try and find some time for these strokes. If you can win one extra point by defending well when pressured, it could make the difference between winning and losing.
