There are a lot more attackers than defenders around today. Is attacking style an advantage over defensive style?

Hi,
In general attackers have the upper hand now due to the speed of the ball. However, there are still a lot of successful defenders around and you can reach a very high level as a defender. Just at the very highest International level it is difficult for the defenders.
