Hi guys, I have been playing more table tennis lately to try and improve, but I have been getting bad pain in my lower back and hip area, I was wondering if you have came across this before and are able to offer any advice on cure or prevention, I have been to see the doctor and he has just gave me stronger pain killers but these make me tired and are just covering up the problem, I have thought about maybe changing my style as I am a powerful topspin player but I would rather not if possible.

Alois, it was also interesting that you mentioned your old friend James Bartolo, he used to play in the same league as me over here in England, small world hu? :)

Hope you had a good holiday, and I look forward to the podcast returning.

Matt.

Hi Matt,

This is unfortunately quite common.  I would see a physio/osteopath rather than a doctor in this case.  I think it is about strengthening those areas and also stretching for more flexibility especially in the hip and back area.  This is probably the most common injury area for Table Tennis players.

Yes James is my wife's cousin and I have known him for close to 40 years.

We will be back for a couple of shows on Monday and Tuesday.  A bit of an interrupted time here with our Summer holiday period.  But also get some sleep ins...
