Serving
Hallo Alois,
I have problems with my 3rd-ball-attack. After serving I am often out of position for my attack. I´ve tried different position (serving from the middle, serving from the backhand side) but the problems remain. When the opponent returns my serve, I´m always a little bit rushed. Serving is not an advantage for me.
How can I improve to be back in position for the following attack?
Thanks
Jürgen
Hi Jürgen,
What type of serves do you use?
One thing that may help is having your legs bent when serving. This will help you to move into position. Also stay stable during your service action and then move your legs into position for the 3rd ball.
Many players unknowingly break the service rules in table tennis. In this video, we break down the official ITTF service rules so you can serve correctly and avoid faults. Whether you're a beginner or a competitive player, mastering the rules will give you an edge in your matches!

Hi Alois,
I use backhand serves from the middle and pendulum serves from the backhand side. The backhand serves work a little better.

On your follow through for the backhand serve spin yourself around with your right leg coming around into the ready position you would normally have. You also need to shuffle half a step to the left at the same time. The other thing you can try is to just serve it more from your backhand side so then you are virtually in the right position after the serve.
The backhand serve is usually suited to players who want to play more backhands in the rally.
