Hi Mora,

Unfortunately there is only one solution I can see. You need to practice it a lot. Start off with the backhand counterhit. Watch our lesson and take notice of the start and finish positions. Try and make these two positions crystal clear in your head. Then practice the stroke by yourself without hitting the ball. This is referred to as shadow play. Play the stroke over and over until you think you have the start and finish positions mastered.

Once you get here you are ready to get out on the table. One of the best ways to practice learning a stroke is to use multi-ball. This is where you get a bucket of balls and ask someone to feed them to your backhand one ball at a time and you try to hit it back over. Using this technique you can hit 50 balls in a very short time and you don't have to worry too much if you miss a ball.

Also you need to practice playing backhand to backhand with someone. You should both try and hit the ball slowly and consistently. Start with a goal of hitting 10 backhands in a row. You can use the PingSkills consistency chart to keep a track of your progress. Once you reach 10, aim for 20 and then 50. If you can play 50 backhands in a row without missing you are doing extremely well.

Try out some of these tips and let us know how you get on.
