Should you use a backhand grip for playing backhands. I see a lot of professional table tennis players change their grip. For example, Ovtcharov (one of my favorite players).

thank you, Alois and Jeff

Hi Adeepa,

It is fine to change the grip slightly between forehand and backhand.  This is something that a lot of the top players do to some extent.

When starting though I think it complicates things if you are changing your grip too much.  Initially keep a central grip and as you improve you can see how much you can change your grip while still being able to be ready for both the forehand and backhand side.

Forehand Chop

The forehand chop is a defensive stroke played away from the table. It is mainly used by defenders but can also be incorporated into an attackers game when forced away from the table.
