Hi Alois and Pingskills

Ago a few days i played a regional tournament here in Chile. There were a lot of penholders inclusive the champion, and i saw a strange stroke, he doesn't push with the backhand, when a backspin ball goes to his backhand he hit it like a normal ball with a normal backhand...i never saw something like this...how i can do this?

Besides i want to know, how to do a topspin against backspin with the korean backhand?...i saw this stroke in great penholders like Ryu Seung Min or Kim Taek Soo and i want to try it for have more variation in the backhand and combinate this with the RPB.

Thanks

Hi Cristh,

To do the 'normal' backhand topspin or one that looks like the shakehand backhand, you will need to alter your grip quite a bit.  Even to a point where it looks like the shakehand grip.  If you have the traditional penhold grip your arm just can't bend that way.

If you want to do the Korean backhand topspin you need to give yourself a lot of room outside your backhand.  You hit the ball from a long way outside the line of your body.  Then swing through from low to high with a big arm action.  This will allow you to get lift on the ball.
