Backhand Topspin finish positions

Hi Alois

In your backhand topspin lesson, Jeff's finish position is very high, and he also uses a lot of upper arms.

I can do the backhand topspin when I copy Jeff's movement.

I see that many Asian players' finish positions are lower, at about shoulder level. They use mainly their forearms. But when I try to copy their stroke, I can't do it. The ball will often hit the net or go off the table!

Could you please advise how I can brush the ball effectively with a low finish position like at shoulder level?

Thanks in advance

Hi Ittipat,

To start with I think that the finish position can be quite high for a more reliable stroke.

Once you have the basic stroke you can start to get the finish position a bit lower and use your wrist and forearm more.  The wrist and forearm will give you more spin and speed and a more efficient stroke.

For the low finish you are brushing over the top of the ball.
