hi alois

i am confused about my backhand top spin

i don't know whether i should relax my rest and arm completely and depend on the speed when contacting the ball or keep the tension in my arm and rest and depending on the strength and the limited speed during the contact and both seem working but with different balls (high , low , topspin , no spin , backspin )

And from what i saw there are players using the first way and there are players using the other

and i want to thank you and jeff for this amazing effort that made me and lots of people love table tennis.

Hi Mohamed,

When you are learning a stroke you don't need to use too much of your wrist.  This will help you to learn the stroke and gain consistency.  As you progress you can relax the wrist more and allow it to come through with your strokes.  This will increase the speed and spin on the ball.

It is important though to start with that you keep things simple.  It is the best way to learn the stroke.

Anticipation

How is it that a player can always seem to get back those extremely fast topspins? Is it their incredible anticipation? The key to good anticipation actually lies in tracking the ball well. When you watch the ball closely your peripheral vision will pick up your opponents movements and with lots of practice those signs will help you anticipate what your opponent is going to do. This happens naturally with lots of experience. So it it your job to ensure that you are tracking the ball really carefully.
