Hi Trilochan,

If you geta backspin ball that lands in the middle of the table you need to make a decision.  Do you think the second bounce will be off the table or on the table?

If it is off the table you can still use your topspin against backspin.   If it is on the table then you have 2 options.  One is to use the push to get the ball back.  The other is to use the flick to hit the ball.  The push is the easier and higher percentage shot.  The flick is the more attacking stroke.

Take a look at these options and decide which will suit you better.

thanks for you answer i got ur point what you are tying to say but my problem is not solved yet. you said i can use push or flick. i play with guys who serve or return with backspin with lot of bounce it is very difficult to push or flick. usually i push it back then they hit smash on it coz if you hit push on bouncing backspin it is not very effective. if i hit smash then there is only 30% accuracy in it most of the time ball land in my table. could you tell what other options i can do.

wHEn the ball is at height with some backspin it is not so effective it can easily solved by putting a great topspin and i hope they would not able to smash bcoz when you give topspin on a ball you should always vary the speed, spin and placement at every poinT!!!

Hi Trilochan, I think the solution is to practice your flick. If they are bouncing the serve high you can still flick it. Open the face of your at up a little more and hit through the ball. It is difficult to push that ball short if it is bouncing up high. The other option is that you can actually topspin the ball, by coming through on a horizontal swing but still brushing the ball. You need to have a fast swing to generate enough grip to lift the ball over the net. This is an advanced technique though.
