Hi Pingskills,

I need some advice about what to do after a bad session. Is it a case of get back on the table and go again, or do we sometimes need to step back, re-evaluate and come back with a different way of thinking. My bread and butter shot, my forehand loop, was struggling. I dont know if there was something technically wrong or what, but the shot that I can normally rely on, was all over the place!! What do you think?

Hi Simon,

I often had similar experiences.  I remember talking once to an older player at the time after a bad session.... or two.... I asked her if I should practice more or less.  Her answer was, "what is wrong with playing the same?".

I think as long as you are mentally OK, you should try to keep thinking more long term.  In the end it is a matter of how many hours you can put in over your life.

hi simon,

i really feel you here dude!...

i played in a tournament this weekend, got moved up 2 divisions due to lack of players in the divisions i wanted to play in, and i got SPANKED. it was pretty humiliating and left my confidence shaken (i am just a beginner). then i had practice the next day, hitting just really badly, faulting a lot, and generally struggling with stuff i hadn't had problems with in weeks. in the end, i decided to just be philosophical about it, and came to the conclusion that life is filled with ups-and-downs, and i just gotta keep on struggling.  :) good luck to you!

peace.
