How should i play? I know basic strokes and serving. On what should I focus more to win matches. How should I play chop or shotting. Playing fast or slow?
Hi Jeevesh,
It is good that you are thinking about how to implement your strokes in a match situation. With all your strokes start by learning how to play them slowly and then building up the speed. In a match situation though you need to vary the speed of the ball. Playing fast all the time is not necessarily the best way.
The main thing at the start is to start to use your proper strokes in a match situation. This involves combining the shots that you are learning.
Take a look at this video we have explaining the process. The 7 Building Blocks of Table Tennis. This shows you how to start with learning the basic strokes and eventually putting it all together in a match.
Although attacking is the most popular style at the top level in Table Tennis, it is important to be able to defend well. If you choose to play a defensive style then you should be practicing these strokes all the time. If you play an attacking stroke then you should still try and find some time for these strokes. If you can win one extra point by defending well when pressured, it could make the difference between winning and losing.
