Strokes and Technique
Hi Alois,
I do remember a video of you saying you used a "Bird Loop," a very rare type of loop. What does it look like and how do you execute it?
Hi Cloud,
This is a bit of an ongoing joke. I wouldn't really recommend that anyone practice the "bird loop". If you watch the video on the about us page of Alois versus Italy, you'll see an example of the shot we are talking about. It's where Alois plays a loop and both arms go into the air as if they were wings. He gets them both up really high and it looks like he could just flap them down and really get some lift :)
A lot of players occasionally play a loop like this if they get out of position but it's not the ideal stroke they want to be playing.

I really do remember top players actually use, even Ma Long, Li Jiao, Ding Ning, and maybe even Timo Boll. I don't think this is a disadvantageous position because it executes a loop that is off position. Constantly, if you loop a ball too hard and you use the bird loop, you'll probably lose balance and inconsistency. I wanna practice it, it sounds fun. I don't regard it as a joke. WHy so?

Actually if you watch Weixing Chan (don't remember the exact spelling/name) you will see him regularly doing it though. He raises both arms while looping from his forehand side. He uses his backhand mostly for chopping.
