Hi David,

Blocking a topspin or loop effectively is all about timing, positioning, and using the right technique. Here are some tips to help you improve your block against a topspin:

  1. Use the Spin: The first thing to remember is that a loop comes with a lot of topspin, which means the ball will dip down and bounce up high off your racket. Use this spin to your advantage by angling your racket slightly forward to counteract the upward bounce.
  2. Stay Close to the Table: Try to stay as close to the table as possible. This reduces the time for your opponent and allows you to block the ball quicker and more effectively.
  3. Keep Your Stroke Compact: When blocking a loop, use a short, controlled stroke. A big swing is unnecessary and can lead to errors or losing control of the rally. Keep your racket movement minimal, and focus on using the incoming energy of the ball to redirect it.
  4. Watch the Ball: Keep your eyes on the ball at all times. Watching the ball allows you to better anticipate its trajectory and adjust your racket angle accordingly.
