Bouncing the ball on the table

i have always been wondering , why do players drop the ball to the table and see its movement before serving, i usually see wang hao dropping the ball on the table on his server after that catching it and do his serve.  Does this make any difference? Are they testing something?

i mean why is this being done

Hi Muntaser,

It is just a habit that some players have.  It doesn't help them with the bounce or anything else.
