Hi There,

I recently viewed a promotional clip on the Brodmann Blades, www.brodmannblades.com, which essentially introduces a third grip type with the blade being 'worn' like a glove. By enabling a more natural swinging action it claims to enable greater ball control, and a faster and more intuitive game. What's your opinion on this latest innovation? Is it even legal in competitive matches? Will it revolutionise the game or be just a recreational gimmick?

My thought is that the additional timbers would make the bat heavier and thus reduce responsiveness. Also by shifting the sweetspot down to the palm/wrist level, it also reduces a player's reach. However, it may make it easier for beginners to learn the various strokes, until they're proficient enough to switch to more mainstream grips (eg. shakehand or penhold with reversed-bh.) Alternatively, the player may even excel and become competitive with this grip.

Hi Tom,

This is an interesting concept.  I would love to give them a try to see how it feels.  If anyone has used one we would love to hear about the effect.

Yes, it probably would be heavier and  by having the sweetspot closer to your hand you wouldn't have as much of a lever which may mean decreased speed.

All interesting.
