Strokes
Hi Alois,
I know that if the ball has more backspin the stroke needs to be vertical to lift the ball. I want to know that if we are making a quicker stroke do we need to reduce the angle and make the contact a little bit more horizontal for the same amount of backspin than in a slower stroke. Intuitively it makes sense to do so because when we contact the ball at a higher speed, there is more brushing action which negates the incoming backspin, thus the amount of lifting we need is lower. Just want to verify.
Thanks.
Hi Chandrachur,
Speed of the racket and angle are the two factors that allow you to lift the ball. Therefore if you are using more of one you can reduce the other.
Good analysis.
The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:
If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
