Changing Ends in Deciding game

Hey guys,

I just wanted to know, in national tournaments (e.g., Australian Open or NSW open) whether you have to switch sides after someone has reached 5 pts in a deciding game. We have this rule at our club in Canberra but I realised that in the international tournaments such as the WTTC they don't have this rule.

Thanks again and keep up the good work.

Hi Leslie,

The rule you are playing by is correct and it is used at all National and International tournaments.  I would be interested to hear why you say that it wasn't used at the WTTC.

The rule is that in the deciding game of a match as soon as the first players reaches 5 points you change ends.  If you are playing doubles you also change receivers.  So if it was time for me to return we would change and my partner would become the returner.

I hope this clears it up for you, but be assured that it should happen in all international events.
