Hi I remember you saying that werner schlager was the last non chinese world champion so I searched for the match where he played and won the finals, quite surprising that his opponent was joo se hyuk because in every world championship finals you are guaranteed to see China because of how strong their players are. Joo se hyuk could almost advance to game 7 but werner defeated him before that could happen. That seems like a pretty good achievement for a chopper. I think joo se hyuk could have won if his suprise attacks were a little more consistent. So have you seen any tournaments where the chopper gets the gold medal?
Hi Jasper,
JooSaehyuk won the 2016 Croatian Open.
Anyone have any other Choppers wins to report?

Is there any other world championship finals that doesn't involve China?

The previous Men's final was 1997 when Waldner played Samsonov. In the Women's 1993 when Koreas Hyun Jung Hwa beat Chen Jing from Chinese Taipei.

I noticed quite a number of choppers don't chop with forehand. They always drive the ball onto the table or counter topspin. I wonder why?

That is a response to "modernization" of table tennis.
They needed to attack more to be successful.

Among women the defense is much more competitive.
