Sir, I found some players serve fast side spin serve often it's difficult to understand whether it's a pendulum serve or the reverse pendulum and these serves come very low. kindly tell me how to return these sort of very low side spin serve in  both singles and in doubles. I have seen some players when face those kind of serve they return it with a kind of chop short from outside the table, which is a bit different.

Thank you

Hi Redwan,

Yu can push or chop it back as long as the server doesn't have a strong attack. If they do, then a chop return will be dangerous.

Judging the Length of a Serve

A really important skill in table tennis is to be able to judge if a serve will be short or long. If it's short you won't be able to take a full swing at the ball and hence will need to use either a push or a flick to return the ball. However, if it is coming long then you can make a topspin attack. In this video we give you some tips to help you judge the length of the serve and hopefully this makes you a better returner.
