Chopping slow spinny topspin

Strokes

Hey Jeff and Alois

Playing as a fledgling chopper, my forehand chopping is okay against topspin drives but against those slow spinny topspin loops I always find no matter how vertical I bring my blade down, the ball pops up high from the spin.

Is it still possible to chop these or would I be better off attacking these or blocking/fishing these kinds of balls back?

Congrats to Alois for his induction into the Coburg Hall of Fame.

Hi Leslie,

The slow spinny ball is a really awkward one to chop. It is possible though.  You really need to come down vertically and also keep your hand relaxed to absorb some of the spin.

The easier option is to fish it or block it but a chop can be more effective.

Thanks for the wishes. It is a real honour.
