Strategy
I saw the pool match where the Australian women had a great start by upsetting the Malaysian team. I was even more surprised to see you as the coach. It was very suspenseful stuff near the end with the 5 game match with Jian Fang Lay.
I was wondering, in the timeout you called in the last game when Lay was down something like 2-5, what kind of advice did you give her?
I hope the team can make it to the finals.
Hi Leslie,
I am here in India coaching the Australian Womens team.
The match last night was an important one for us. The players did extremely well.
In the last set Jian fell behind early. At the timeout we talked about her getting more aggressive with her forehand when she got a softer ball form the Malaysian player. This worked well at the end of the match especially when Beh Lee Wei became a little tentative. Jian Fang Lay is a very strong competitor as you would have seen last night.
At that stage it is about tactics rater than technique. She was gaining a good advantage when she was able to give her opponent a slower ball with the pimples to the middle.
We have a long way to go before medals are handed out but it was a pleasing result. Thanks for your good wishes.
