Training
Hi, coaches!
Is it useful to practice with constant ball? I have no partner to practice topspins. That's why I put a ball on a stick, then tried to practice brushing the ball and to focus on the contact moment. Then I felt that my brushing action improved on slow balls, but I got problems with fast balls. Should I continue practice topspins like that? Or is it harmful?
Hi Ardak,
I think hitting a ball from a stationary position has limited benefit. It is better than not doing anything.
It doesn't give you a realistic ball to work with.
Pushing short is a great option but you need variation in your game. When you push the ball long you want to make sure it is fast to try and get your opponent's out of position. Watch this video for some tips on how to play the fast long push with heaps of backspin.

If you don't have a partner and can't afford a robot, maybe you could build yourself some kind of return board (look it up on Google). You wouldn't need to put rubber on it, just incline it so that it will block back your topspin ball.
