hi, what is the correct point of contact when doing the backhand flick? should i be aiming for the top of the ball, or the back of the ball? and is it the same for the forehand flick? thanks.

Also when doing the backhand punch stroke, are you using more wrist or keeping the wrist straight and using just elbow pivot?

Hi Andrew,

The contact point on the ball depends on how fats and flat you want to hit the ball.  If you feel that the ball is high enough over the net you can contact it flat and fast.  If you want a bit more safety then brush the top of the ball a little more to generate some topspin.

For the punch to get the fastest ball you will start to use the wrist as well. Initially concentrate on the forearm movement.  When you relax your wrist you will start to generate more speed.

Strawberry Flick

The strawberry flick is the opposite of the banana flick and involves utilising the wrist to get the ball spinning with topspin and sidespin. Used in conjunction with the banana flick it can be very deceptive. The banana flick is a more reliable stroke and that's why you see more top players using it over the strawberry flick.
