Hi Alois!

I'm playing against the same player almost everyday and he can't do a topspin. Well, it is a topspin, but there is more sidespin than topspin in it. When I try to block it, I don't even touch it because there is too much sidespin and when the ball bounces on the table, it goes away. What can I do?

HI Yoan,

Make sure you are following the ball through its flight, watching it carefully.  Then when you contact the ball allow for the sidespin.  So if the sidespin is going to take the ball to the left, angle your bat to the right and hit through the ball.

It can be a difficult stroke, but it is good that you have the opportunity to practice with a player that does this regularly and you can learn form it.

Forehand Block

The forehand block is one way to counter a topspin stroke hit to your forehand side. Learn this stroke and you will be able to keep yourself in the rally even when your opponent get the first attack in.
