Hi,
i have seen defenders counter-attacking with their forehand, but i think that because attacker is more closer to the table, he would attack more effectively. Is counter-attacking as a defender a good option?
Hi,
Yes counterattacking as a defender makes it more awkward for the attacking player usually.
If the attacking player can get into a rhythm of attacking and controlling the rally then the defenders attack can break that up.
Often the attack of a defender is a little different to a usual topspin attack so it is something that the attacker doesn't see very often.
A chopper likes to get back from the table and get into a nice rhythm. If you keep the defender close to the table in the early part of the rally, it's hard for them to transition back into their chopping position. So keep the ball short on your serve and try and catch them unprepared. Watch the video to find out more great tactics to use against a defensive chopper.
