Hi Alois and Jeff,

I would just like to ask for some tips for counterdrivers like me or as you Aussies say Counterhitter. My game is based on staying close to the table, punching/smashing medium height balls, countering balls until I get a chance to smash and blocking loops. I flick/push for balls over the table. In your videos, you didn't add any Main Points to Counterhitting.

My setup is Kreanga Aeros with Catapult Hard on the forehand and Speedy P.O. in the backhand. I occasionally twiddle when needed for serve return. Catapult Hard gives me enough speed and spin. Speedy PO is a great short pips rubber. I plan on using Catapult Hard on both sides as I am getting much better in serve return. I plan not gluing or buying Tensor rubbers as they are expensive. I am quite happy with my current setup. I was last rated 2000+ in 2008.

Hi Carlo,

It is funny the different terminology different countries develop for the same shots.

As a Counterdriver, you need to rely on getting to an open game.  By that I mean away from the pushes and backspin part of the rally and into the topsin and hitting strokes.

You also need to use placement better.  You have the advantage of not needing a lot of time to produce your shots as they are shorter than a topspin players'.

Your disadvantage is that you less margin of error because of the flatness of your strokes.

So focus on placement and change sof speed.  Work to bring the attacking player in and out as well as side to side.
