Receiving

When I am receiving I sometimes shift around before the ball is tossed or wait until the ball is tossed before getting into the ready position so my opponent has a harder time figuring out where I will be once served.

I am wondering if it is common for players to know what serve they are doing (spin, placement, pace, etc) before they toss the ball or do they make adjustments after it is tossed to compensate for the receivers position chance.

When I serve I do make adjustments after the toss if needed.

Hi Paul,

It is best to know what serve you are doing before you serve it otherwise it is difficult to plan the next ball.

Also when receiving it is best to stay reasonable still so that you can watch the ball carefully.  I think this is more important than confusing your opponent.
