I am a new player of table tennis but I have been watching matches for some time now, I am a fan of those Korean players who have backspins as their main moves.

What I want to know is: If I am going to become a defensive player, apart from push and chops, is there any other skills I need to practice?

Hi Aphrodite,

Yes defending can be a really satisfying way to play table tennis.

The first thing is to practice your defence and become very consistent with it.

You will eventually also need to have a good attack like Joo Se Hyuk.  This stops the attacker from playing soft returns when you do an effective chop.

Good luck with it.  The world needs more defenders.

Tactics Against A Defensive Chopper

A chopper likes to get back from the table and get into a nice rhythm. If you keep the defender close to the table in the early part of the rally, it's hard for them to transition back into their chopping position. So keep the ball short on your serve and try and catch them unprepared. Watch the video to find out more great tactics to use against a defensive chopper.
