Hi Alois,

While watching some instructional videos on the internet I came across the above terms like topspin, loop drive and loop kill. Especially for the loop kill, it was mentioned that the racket angle should be very close. Normally, when I hit a forehand topspin shot, the angle is somewhere between 12'O clock to 2'O clock (I am a left hander). When I try to close the face more, the ball goes to the net.

Due to this reason, I am not able to hit topspins with power but only with a good amount of spin. This is really causing some trouble at my end since now I am trying desperately to impart some more power to my strokes. Can you please explain the differences in the above shots from your perspective and how to get them correctly?

Regards,

Mudit

Hi Mudit,

All those terms are all terms that talk about the topspin.  Don't be too worried about the terms, they are all the same stroke.

Get your topspin correct.  For more speed you can think about the stroke being a little more horizontal rather than vertical.   You can close the bat over the ball more.  When you do this though you have to get the bat moving a lot faster otherwise the ball will go into the net. You also need a good quality rubber to be able to do this.  If your rubber is lacking in grip then this stroke will be difficult.
