Different table tennis tables

At home, we have an old, junky table tennis table.  Recently, my uncle visited us and took us to a table tennis faciility where we played on professional tables.

It felt like we were playing a completely different game as the ball bounced more and had tremendous reaction to spins.  I kind of feel like I'm worse because I've practiced on poor quality table for so long.

Now I want to purchase a competition-level table.  Would you recommend purchasing a professional level table for beginners?  Thanks a lot.  Great website!

Hi Jamie,

Some of the old tables do give you a very low bounce, but don't worry too much, you are still learning how to play on it.  It will not take much to adjust to a 'good' table when you start to play on one regularly.

The Table we like is the Stiga Compact Roller for your type of situation.  It isn't too expensive and offers a good even bounce.  I wouldn't necessarily go out and buy a top of the range table to start with but something like the Compact Roller is a good intermediate step.

These are not available in all countries but are available in Australia.

What country do you live in?
