Do you have to use a real sized table

Hello, I like to play table tennis but I don't know if I have to use a proper sized table. If I don't sometimes it seems like its holding me back because it's hard to return and serve shots.

Ideally you should practice on a proper size table so you get used to placing the ball correctly however if you have no alternative, then any size table is better than not hitting at all.
