Hello Alois and Jeff,
I was happy to see the Xu Xin Match against Mizutani. What an Impressive Tournament by Mizutani! It feels to me as if he is close to scare the top chinese in this form.
I noticed one particular change in Mizutanis game. Nowerdays He avoids getting in a long fishing game, wich was earlier his trademark. I remember seeing the final of the world tour 2015 Ma Long against Fan Zhendong. They were avoiding fishing too. After getting in the Fishing distance and may be doing one fishing hit immidiately trying to countertopspin. Thats what Xu Xin and Jun Mizutani were doing yesterday too.
What are your thoughts?
Hi Marcin,
With his form during this Olympics he has shown a real step up in level. It will be interesting to watch him now over the next 6 months to see if he can solidify this form.
I think attacking from the back of the court is required to play with the top few players in the world. They will not succumb to fishing.

What exactly is a "fishing"?
WHat is its purpose?
Seems like Iam missing something.

Fishing is a term used for playing slow, retrieving balls (usually with topspin) from a few steps back and/or below the table level. It's pretty much the same as lobbing but much lower over the net with more emphasis on placement and spin.
It's a technique used for staying in the rally without completely giving up your ground, as it's much harder to smash a fished ball compared to a lob. (when you lob you need to move even further back)
