Eric Boggan, Danny Seemiller & the Seemiller Grip

Hello Alois & Jeff,

 I live in the US and grew up playing in the 1970's & 80's. Eric Bogan & Danny Seemiller were two of the best American players and had success at the world level. Eric, I believe even made it to the quarter finals of the world championships and was ranked 18th in the world. What made them unique was their playing style using the Seemiller grip, sometimes known as the windshieldwiper grip in which one side of the paddle is used for both the forehand and the backhand shots while flipping the paddle to alternate sticky rubber and anti rubber during play. 

I would like to know your opinions of Eric and Danny as players, the Seemiller grip in general. And why almost no one uses the grip today even though they proved it can be competitive at the highest level.

Hi Aaron,

I have a lot of respect for what those players were able to do and the way they changed the thinking of the game at the time.

It isn't a grip we deal with much mainly because I haven't really explored it a lot.  However, I think it is more difficult to play with.  The main limitation I find is the use of the wrist as the grip tends to lock your wrist in position.
