i find that the forehand flick and the smash is quite similar so do i use the smash if the opponent does some spin in the serve?

Hi Chesley,

The flick can be a small smash if the ball is high enough.

Ou can try smashing the return but you need to make sure the ball is high over th enet to allow you to get enough margin over the net on your return.

The smash has a very straight path so there needs to be enough clearance over the net at the hitting point to make sure you can get it onto the table.

The safer option is to put a little topspin on the flick so the ball dips down onto the table.

Strawberry Flick

The strawberry flick is the opposite of the banana flick and involves utilising the wrist to get the ball spinning with topspin and sidespin. Used in conjunction with the banana flick it can be very deceptive. The banana flick is a more reliable stroke and that's why you see more top players using it over the strawberry flick.
