Hello Alois,

How should one improve on Footwork & Reflexes for the game? Are there any specific exercises for the same? I have started playing just a year back and get just 45 min / day every morning and I have an office to catch up for after that. How should I utilize limited time available to me to balance necessary exercises and Table Play.

Look forward to your advise.

Many Thanks,

Rohan

Hi Rohan,

You could do some footwork drills.  We have a lot of these in our download on our Free Downloads page.  Take a look at the Training Drills download there.  It shows you a whole set of drills that you can incorporate into your training.  You can do this either on the table or even without the ball and table and do it as a shadow play exercise.  Shadow play is where you mimic the movements without using a ball.

Lobbing Tactics

If you get pushed back from the table don't just give up the point. Try and and get back into the rally. By lobbing the ball high and deep you give yourself time to get into position. If you can then get some topspin on the ball to force the smasher further away from the table then you are likely to get a weaker smash and then you can take your chance and try to counter attack!
